Lunchbox Express
2014

Overview
Jewish Family Service of Colorado was the recipient of a Dresner Foundation Youth Grant for their Lunchbox Express program. The grant will help fund their summer free lunch program that assists underserved children in the Denver and Aurora, Colorado areas.

Details
Lunchbox Express is a mobile food delivery service operated by Jewish Family Service of Colorado that targets areas of underserved children and brings them free lunch during the summer. The program is dedicated to feeding hungry Colorado kids when school is out and they don’t have access to free or reduced-fee lunches in their schools.

The program utilizes repurposed mini school buses as delivery vehicles and a group of volunteers to serve thousands of meals each summer. The packed meals are nutritionally-balanced and are served with milk. There is no proof of income required and all children 18 and under qualify for a free lunch, no matter where they live or go to school.

When the Dresner Foundation heard about the program we knew it was a good fit for our Youth Grant program. We are proud to support a program that helps children and provides them with meals when they normally would not have access to one. It is our hope that one day no child has to miss a meal during the summer.
