Joseph’s Devotion to Health Care
In 2000, Joseph Dresner was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia, a medical condition due to inefficient production of all blood cells. Joe fought a long battle with the disease (known as MDS) which gave him an appreciation for those who work in the medical field and those who are sick.
During his many visits to the hospital it became apparent to Joe that there was a need to provide financial support to health care systems. His objective was to provide dedicated physicians with grants to improve their research and provide those affected by illness with resources to aid them through their recovery. It was for this reason that the Joseph Dresner Family Clinic for Hematologic Malignancies & Stem Cell Transplantation at the Karmanos Cancer Institute was created.
Our Focus
Research – support for Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and related research and emerging research leaders in the field.
We look to provide researchers with the ability to focus on searching for MDS treatments and cures. The main goal is to allow researchers and patients to focus on what is principally important, which is overcoming illness.
Access – support for programs that improve the health outcomes of vulnerable people.
The Dresner Foundation is equally interested in efforts that have broad and meaningful impact and focus on intervention and prevention beyond the boundaries of any one disease.
Therefore, we also seek to support a network of hospitals and community based organizations that work to improve the health outcomes of vulnerable people through enhanced access to health care.
