Youth Writing and Publishing Programs
The Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation awarded 826michigan $300,000, over three years, to serve 1,000 Detroit youth annually through the delivery of core writing programs, as well as the development of two new programs.
826michigan inspires school-aged students to write confidently and skillfully with the help of adult volunteers. 826michigan achieves this through its accessible writing-based programs, comprising after-school programs, field trips, in-school tutoring, and workshops.
In the 2019-2020 academic year, 826michigan will launch two new programs, including family writing labs and a summer program. Through these programs, students will improve their academic performance, develop a sense of belonging, and discover the unique value of their voices.
