Albert Einstein College of Medicine was awarded a $250,000 grant over two years to support early career researcher Dr. Satish Nandakumar.

Details
Dr. Nandakumar will conduct this research with the support of his mentor Dr. Amit Verma to identify regulatory elements and target genes underlying germline genetic risk of clonal hematopoiesis, a precursor state that precedes myelodysplastic syndromes. The studies will determine how germline risk variants interact with somatic driver mutations in hematopoietic stem cells during development of clonal hematopoiesis.
