Transformative Out-of-School Arts Experiences
2017
Overview
The Dresner Foundation has renewed its commitment to Living Arts with a $40,000 grant supporting Transformative Out-of-School Arts Experiences for Detroit Youth and Families.
Details
Out-of-School Arts Experiences will deliver 40 weeks of performing, visual, media, and multi-disciplinary arts classes as well as bilingual family involvement programs to 350-400 youth in Southwest Detroit during their afterschool, summer and weekend hours. Programs will reach infants through teens.
Programming is divided into two areas; family involvement and school aged youth. Family involvement programs will support school readiness and provide caregivers with arts-based strategies they can use to nurture learning at home. Programs for school age youth will focus on developing their artistic capabilities and self-efficacy while supporting academic achievement.
The grant from the Dresner Foundation will help sustain equitable access for students wishing to participate in programming.
