Dental Clinic
2016
Overview
The Dresner Foundation provided the Society of Vincent de Paul Dental Clinic a $50,000 grant to provide dental services.
Detail
Saint Vincent de Paul (SVDP) has been providing services to the vulnerable throughout the Detroit area for over 130 years. SVDP is a major provider of human and disaster relief services, providing emergency assistance and basic necessities to more than 250,000 people each year.
Funding will enable St. Vincent de Paul Dental Clinic to treat about 300 new patients (equivalent to approximately 1,200 patient visits, as each patient averages four visits to achieve health) over the next 12 months. Services are provided by a volunteer team of dental professionals. Also, dental students and hygiene students will be mentored by their faculty or by practicing dentists and will be provided valuable hands-on community outreach experience while being exposed to socio-economic issues in real-world clinical setting. Pre-dental students get an exposure to the profession and their experience at the clinic has proven a great gateway into dental school.
