The role of the stem cell niche in the progression of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) to secondary acute myeloid leukemia (sAML)

University of Rochester was awarded a $249,954 grant over two years to support early career investigator Dr. Shu-Chi Yeh.

Dr. Yeh will conduct this research with the support of her mentor Dr. Michael Becker to understand critical components of the bone marrow microenvironment (the niche) that enables early-stage competitive advantages of MDS subclones associated with sAML transformation, with the aims of identifying new therapeutic candidates.
