Very Young Composers
2017

Overview

The Dresner Foundation provided Colorado Symphony a $75,000 grant over three years to expand Very Young Composers, an in-school residency program.

Details

Very Young Composers is a mini residency program that pairs professional teaching artists with the school’s existing music teachers to provide intensive, semester-long music instruction for disadvantaged students. Through this program, students will learn about creative storytelling and music making. Workshops engage children in learning about basic musical concepts, including melody, instrumentation, rhythm, form and performance, all of which support Colorado State Standards. The final workshop is the actual performance of student compositions at school assemblies and at Boettcher Concert Hall both, which are open to the greater Colorado community.
